Certificate of Irish Heritage

On 19 September 2011, the Tánaiste launched the Government’s new Certificate of Irish Heritage. “Read more here"

The Certificate represents an acknowledgment and appreciation by the Irish State of the strong and enduring connection to Ireland felt by millions of people around the world. The Certificate recognises descendants of previous generations of Irish citizens and is a practical expression of the sense of Irish identity felt by many around the world. Applicants for a Certificate of Irish Heritage may wish to note that:

  • the Certificate does not confer citizenship or any other legal
    rights on the holder;
  • they will be required to demonstrate an ancestral connection with Ireland; and
  • the Certificate of Heritage is operated by FEXCO under license from the Department.

    Full details on the Certificate and how to apply can be found of the Certificate of Irish Heritage website www.heritagecertificate.ie.
